Softwood Decking Boards – Affordable & High Quality

Each board is:

All boards are fully pressure treated, giving them a natural green hue. Over time, they’ll mellow to a golden brown and eventually weather to silver unless treated with a UV-protective finish.

Please note: Timber is a natural product. Some minor defects are normal, and we always recommend allowing for a small percentage of waste when ordering.
How Much Softwood Decking Will You Need?
Measure the length and width of your deck area and multiply the two for your square metre total. Then work out your boards. A 125mm board laid with a 5mm expansion gap covers around 130mm, so that's roughly 7.7 boards for every metre you're crossing.
Always add 10% on top for cuts, offcuts and the odd mistake. Nobody enjoys booking a second delivery for four boards. If maths isn't your thing, ring us with your measurements and we'll work it out with you. We do it most days of the week.
Don't Forget the Bits Underneath
The boards are the part everyone sees, but the frame does all the hard work. You'll want treated 4x2 timber for your joists, spaced at 400mm centres so the deck feels solid underfoot rather than bouncy. Add decking screws that won't rust out after two winters, weed membrane for underneath, and posts if you're building up off the ground.

Softwood or Composite? Here's Our Honest Answer
Softwood decking costs less up front, cuts easily, and if a board gets damaged in five years you just swap that one out. It does want a wash and a coat of oil every year or two to keep it looking its best. Composite costs more at the start and asks almost nothing of you afterwards.
If your budget is tight, or you simply prefer the feel of real timber underfoot, softwood is the one. If you'd rather fit it and forget about it, have a look at our composite range instead. Give us a call and we'll tell you straight which makes more sense for your job.
Looking After Your Decking
Sweep it regularly, keep the leaves off over winter, and give it a proper wash before summer arrives. A decking oil with UV protection will hold that golden colour for a lot longer. Leave it be and you'll end up with the silver-grey weathered look, which honestly plenty of our customers prefer. One thing worth knowing: the grooved side isn't automatically the top. Both faces are treated exactly the same, so lay it whichever way up you like the look of.
